Peterson, Chairman of the Learning Center, have both resigned those
positions.
Vice President,
Bob Mugge
Secretary, Janice
Schneck
-
Asked all of
those present to review the latest revision of the Administration List for
any changes that need to be made.
-
It was agreed
to remove John Krueger from the Program Committee as nobody has been able to
contact him.
Treasurer, Dick
Schmeling
-
Distributed
the financial accounting for the month of December. The Club received $510
in dues, a $40 gift and $0.89 of bank interest during the month. We paid
out the annual $35 for the safety deposit box and $50 for membership in
APCUG. Another $62.55 was expended for supplies. In the Non-Operating
Pass-Through Account, a $300 gift from the Church Crafters was recorded and
$56.48 was used for Giveaway supplies. All of this activity left the Club
with a Bank balance of $10,471.61.
-
Report
included full-year income and expenses and graphic depictions of their
relative significance. He also provided an itemized list of all 2007
financial transactions.
-
The Club’s
books are in good order and ready for the annual audit. The auditors are
Marty Hulett and Charlie Shubeck, who will meet at Schmeling’s home in 2
days to conduct their audit. After the audit is completed, the year-end
summary will go to Fritchman to be placed on the Club’s website.
-
Schmeling
reminded the new Club officers that they will need to go to the Bank with
him to update the signature forms.
Jim Peterson
motioned to accept the Treasurer’s Monthly Report. Jan Schneck seconded.
The Treasurer’s

Past President,

COMMITTEE REPORTS
Membership
-
Kutschera
reported that, in the past month, we received 1 new memberships (2 members)
and 15 renewals memberships (24 members). Due to a misprint in the
Newsletter last month, 2 members paid $20 instead of $15. One of those
members asked that we keep the $5 as a donation and the other will get $5
refunded in the form of a check from the Treasurer. In addition, one slide
scanner subscriber paid the $25 fee for that service. A total of $275 has
been turned over to the Treasurer.
-
We had a few
Newsletter bounce-backs, but those were corrected where they could be.
Others were cancelled from the mailing list. When the cancelled member(s)
report getting no Newsletter, they will be reinstated with their corrected
e-mail address.
Public Relations
-
Due to Bob
Wilson’s resignation, Peterson said we will be looking for a Chairman for
this committee and will determine what the duties will be.
Programs
-
Bob Foster
said that he spoke with Colleen Fitch today. She will do a presentation on
On-Line Banking Including More Security at the February General Meeting.
She asked to borrow the Club’s laptop to work on her Power Point
presentation, so that will be delivered to her. Foster promised that we
would help her in any way we can. Stated he still would like to get
Knoxville Police or some entity in law enforcement that deals with cyber
crime.
-
Peterson
stated that Vince Alline’s recent presentation on Cyber Crime brought in
several favorable comments. Alline said he had given the hand-outs to
Howard Jones who said he would put them on the Club’s website.
-
Foster
advised that he bought 2 memory sticks, a spray can of air to clean your
computer, DVD-Rs, and Label Maker software to have for prizes. The total
price of these came to about $87. He’s been allocated $25/month for prizes,
so sometimes expenditures go over and other times under. He plans to come
out even by year end, though.
-
Peterson
commented that he would like to keep General Meetings to 1 1/2 hours because
after that we start to lose audience.
Learning/Education
Center
-
Bill Peterson
said that although he has resigned as Chairman, he will remain on the
committee to assist.
First Level
Support
-
Dennis
Malcolm said there were only 2 requests for help last month and they were
taken care of.
Special Interest
Groups
-
Don Stieghan
reported that the Genealogy SIG may be disbanding soon. There is a
Genealogy Club in the Village and that seems to be enough.
-
The Music on
the Computer SIG is not meeting at the present time, but it has not been
disbanded.
-
The Digital
Photography SIG continues to be active.
-
He has been
recruiting for a SIG Committee and will start with 2 members.
-
Notes that
most people who contact him now actually need a class. What they want and
need to know does not require a SIG.
-
Dennis
Malcolm interjected that he is getting the same information.
-
Jim Peterson
is hearing from people who want to know more about Vista, too.
OLD
BUSINESS
Classroom Update
-
Jeff Gagley
told Jim Peterson that he expects the classroom to be ready by the end of
this month. Gagley wants the carpet replaced before we go in.
-
Peterson
stated he can save about $200 on each laptop if he goes with the 15.4”
screen. Tiger Direct will charge just under $700 each for the 17” screen.
He can get memory at a pretty good discount and feels we need at least 2
gigs because Vista won’t work with less than that.
-
Schmeling
offered that laptops are highly reflective, hard to read, but you can get
the matte screens.
-
Mugge led
what became a good deal of discussion regarding pixels needed, clarity,
print size, screen size, etc. until it was finally decided that Peterson
should probably obtain 6-7 laptops with the 15.4” screen and 2-3 with the
17” screen.
-
Peterson will
be talking to Victor de Groote about getting the necessary site license.
Bylaws
-
The Board
went over the amendments to the Bylaws as previously e-mailed to members by
Karen Brown. Joyce Knouse motioned to approve the amendments and Dick
Schmeling seconded. The Bylaws amendments were approved by the Board.
NEW BUSINESS
Laser Printer
Donated
-
Sanders
advised that Victor de Groote has donated a laser printer to the Club. We
can put it in the storage closet here in the Rec Center to be used by the
classroom. The printer should be added to the inventory of equipment which
is in Dick Schmeling’s care.
Giveaway Program
-
Sanders
stated that the Club has 9 more computers for the Giveaway Program.
