The spring showers have made Tellico Village a green paradise this year and the flowers, grass and trees are growing like weeds.  So are the weeds!  It's a lot of fun to get to know our area and all there is to participate in.  To enjoy our community even more, we can use all the tools of today's electronic communications.  In the June 2nd program we'll hear about some of the e-communications that can provide us up-to-date information about Tellico Village and the surrounding area.  Guest speakers will show us a variety of communications methods they're implementing.  Karen Brown will show how the HOA has added more information to their website to inform residents of social events as well as other community information.  Claire Moxim will explain how she moderates the Kahite newsgroup that residents have to communicate information among themselves. John Cherry of the POA will show how the newly developed newsflash sent directly to your email Inbox, called "Tell-E-Gram", provides you with current information (like bridge lane closures, schedule for brush/leaf pickup, etc.).

Bob Mugge and TVCUC's Education Committee have scheduled new workshops (see below), First Level Support continues to assist our members, the Communications Committee will be embarking on updates to our communication strategy, and we're still looking for someone to take on the role of Program Chair and someone to take on the roles of vice President.  It's member volunteers that make this club effective and you can be an important part of it!  Please consider volunteering.

Introduction to Genealogy Classes

Anyone interested in scheduling classes for an orientation to genealogy should contact me at 458-2142 for additional information.  These two classes can be scheduled at the TVCUC classroom for the cost of $5.00/person, which includes researching the Internet for specific family history records.

In June, we are targeting our assistance toward users of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Learning center laptops will be set up to give specific help on these programs.  Both Vista (2007 versions) and XP (2003 versions) will be available for comparisons and hands-on use.  These sessions will not be specific classes but we hope to answer individual questions.  This may also be helpful for those of you having trouble updating from 2003 to 2007 versions of these programs.  We may be able to help with earlier versions of Word (those furnished with some suite versions of Works), but this is of secondary importance for the June sessions.  Other general questions will be addressed as equipment and resources permit.

I have set up the following dates and times in June for the Learning Lab open house sessions:

Thursday June 4 from 1-4 PM
          Wednesday June 10 from 9 AM-12 noon
Friday June 19 from 1-4 PM
Tuesday June 23 from 1-4 PM

Here is a photograph sent to me by my brother and is one of a series of wave photos taken by photographer Clark Little.  I cannot show them all here so you if want to see the other great wave pictures, send me a note and I will send them to you.

Here is a very unusual picture and proves the wisdom of having your camera with you as often as possible.

Snow Rolls

On the evening of March 31st, 2009, Tim Tevebaugh was driving home from work east of Craigmont in the southern Idaho Panhandle. Across the rolling hay fields, Tim saw a very usual phenomenon. The snow rollers that he took pictures of are extremely rare because of the unique combination of snow, wind, temperature and moisture needed to create them. They form with light but sticky snow and strong (but not too strong) winds. These snow rollers formed during the day as they weren't present in the morning on Tim's drive to work. Go to   http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/otx/photo_gallery/snow_rollers.php to see several other shots.

Do  you feel you are spending too much time typing.  Consider Typing-Expansion Software and read this article by David Pogue of the New York Times.

If you own a HP laptop and have had an issue with your battery, check out this HP web site and maybe there will be a solution for you.

For our final photo, here is a great shot taken by Bob Mugge and is an air view of Sydney taken 1/31 from a Qantas 737. Notice the famous Opera House in the upper left corner.  Enjoy!

================================================================
I hope to see you out and about the village this month.  Don't forget that if you are walking our streets and roads it is a good opportunity for you to make Tellico Village even more beautiful by picking up trash.  Another benefit for picking up trash is that your pick-up device is very useful for moving snakes from your path - helps also on "some" dogs you might encounter along the way!

See you at the general meeting.
