Those of you who attended last month's presentation by Steve Bobo will agree he gave us plenty of important information regarding identify theft and you will agree that he included too many references for us to copy.

You will be happy to know Victor has been able to capture Steve's notes on our web site. To find these notes go to our web site at www.tvcuc.org .  Then to the "Library" tab, then click on "Presentations".  There will you see the note under "Identify Theft".

I want to personally thank all of the club members who "reenlisted" in support of the Computer Club.  This Club is yours, with your labor and your membership dues, you help the Club invest in our Community.

The Learning Center is moving along with the building renovations almost completed and a lot of "background" work is being done to prepare us to make good use of the space allocated to us.  The necessary software has been ordered to equip the 10 computers we have already purchased and we are almost ready to go.

See you at the April 1st meeting!

A Note of Apology

It has come to my attention that the sign-up sheets for the March General Meeting did not accurately reflect the 2008 paid memberships.

There was some miscommunication in the transfer of new and renewed memberships that prevented our database master from receiving the required information to update our official database.

With the exception of any new checks that might be coming to me late this month, the sign-up sheets for the April General Meeting will be accurate.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. If you are uncertain whether or not you paid for 2008, please don't hesitate to email Bob Kutschera at bkkutch@yahoo.com.

Two SIGs are now meeting each month at the Chota Rec Center, with two others on vacation.  The meetings last for about an hour and half.

Genealogy-first Thursday at 3:00 PM (contact Don Stieghan at 458-2142)

Digital Photography-second Thursday at 3:00 PM (contact Jim Noonan at 458-9940)

   Computer Hardware-on vacation

   Music on the Computer-on vacation

Do you want to be a part of these exciting programs or just ask questions about SIGs?  You can receive meeting announcements and organization information.  Just send me an e-mail address at tvdon@chartertn.net, or call 458-2142 or see me at the TVCUC general meeting.  Also, help is available to start additional SIGs by expressing your special interest.  You do not have to be the expert to lead a SIG to propose the organization of one, just have an interest in the subject matter.

Over the past weeks while working on computers donated for the Garage Sale I have discovered that many computers had wasted disk space, for example, a 20 Gig hard drive on which 10 Gigs was taken up with "garbage" files. These files are old temporary Internet files, old backup files, cookies, etc. which took quite a while to remove. If you have not cleaned up your hard drive in awhile (several times a month depending on usage) you can do that a few ways.

First when you quite browsing the Internet for the day, using Internet Explorer I.E., click on Tools>Delete Browsing History, you then can delete the individual items or use the Delete All button. You can the check whether or not you want to delete files stored by add-ons.

Second you can run Disk Cleanup manually as follows:

Click START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS>DISK CLEANUP. When it completes it will ask if it is OK to remove the files click OK.

Third you can automate doing your disk cleanup using your Task Scheduler and follow the instructions given in an article by Eric Vaughn.

Eric has given us permission to print his article but it is too long to be included in this newsletter.

However, Victor has offered to add this article to our web site under the title of How To Schedule Disk Cleanup To Run Automatically in Windows XP.

You can find that article by going to the club site, look under LIBRARY, then PRESENDATION PAPERS, then the title of the article.

Last month our program was on Identity Theft and we discussed some of the pros and cons of Identity Theft services being offered to help us in this area of our lives.  Here is a site which offers to compare several of their services being offered.

Do you worry about the possible effects of the computer on your eyes?  It is a real danger for those of us who spend a lot of time on our computers.  It can also be a serious problem if you if you or one of our children or grandchildren are "gamers".  Here is an interesting article on that subject supplied by Vince Alline.

As you begin to get out on the lake in your boat or as you walk around the lake and village, be sure to look around for messages - just like this one which is telling us - "Have a good day"!  They are everywhere but you have to be looking to catch them - and they dissappear quickly!

We in the village just had our one-day winter and it was beautiful!  I hope you were here to enjoy it come so quickly and leave just as quickly.

The weather should be great for our April meeting so come join your friends.
