 Dear Member,

The Tellico Village Computer Uses Club's monthly meeting will be held on June 3rd at 7pm on the top floor of the Yacht Club.  Registration is on the Mezzanine level - 4th floor.

Our program for the June meeting will be a presentation by Lindsay Albers on behalf of Sandhills Publishing who gives us Smart Computing.  The presentation, aiming to educate attendees about Sandhills Publishing's magazines and the Smart Computing User Group Program, will step members through an issue of Smart Computing, convey the value of SmartComputing.com through a live demonstration, and introduce attendees to Smart Computing's sister publications - PC Today, Computer Power User, First Glimpse and the Reference Series.

The presentation will also explain how members can receive free, unlimited technical support. Each attendee will receive a packet of Smart Computing goodies and be eligible to win other Smart Computing merchandise.

Board Meeting

The next board meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 10th, at 3 pm at the Rec. Center.  All interested members are invited to attend. Visitors are also welcome.

Be sure to visit our web site at www.tvcuc.org .  There are lots of articles to assist you.

For example - If at the last meeting Howard motivated you to become better at backing up your data, the notes from that presentation are there to give you all the help you need.

Welcome to the Month of June ( How time flies)!

Work is continuing on our Learning Center and the laptop's are almost ready for classes to start.  The Education Committee is really busy getting ready to show "Their Stuff".  They are putting a lot of time and effort into this task and you will be proud of what they are doing.  Sometime during our general meeting I or someone will give you an update on this project.

As noted in our meeting announcement, the program this month will be updates on Smart Computing.  They have been with us before and their speakers have been great and have given us lots of good information to help us better use our computers.  If you are not already a subscriber of a PC magazine, I would recommend Smart Computing as it is very easy to read and very helpful.

See you at the meeting on Tuesday!

It is preferred that you send a check so that congestion at the monthly meeting registration table can be reduced if not eliminated. Also, your check will serve as your receipt.

If you are not certain that you have paid the 2008 dues, please email Bob at bkkutch@yahoo.com.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter and for your participation and support of the Tellico Village Computer Users Club.

Three SIGs are now meeting each month.  The meetings last for about an hour and half.

Genealogy-                First Thursday at 3:00 PM at Chota Rec Center (contact Don Stieghan at 458-2142)

Digital Photography-  Second Thursday at 3:00 PM at Chota Rec Center (contact Jim Noonan at 458-9940)

Computer Hardware-  Third, contact Vince Alline at 824-3380

Do you want to be a part of these exciting programs or just ask questions about SIGs?  You can receive meeting announcements and organization information.  Just send your e-mail address to me at tvdon@chartertn.net, or call at 458-2142 or see me at the TVCUC general meeting.  Also, help is available to start additional SIGs by expressing your special interest.  You do not have to be the expert to lead a SIG to propose the organization of one, just have an interest in the subject matter.  In the future, new SIGs will probably result from the classes being planned.

AVG Virus Protection
.  If you are currently using AVG to protect your computer, please look for an announcement from them that the current 7.5 version of this program will not work after 5/31/08.  You will be required to upgrade to the new 8.0 version.  You can find version 8.0 at several sites including their home site which is www.free.grisoft.com   When you install the upgrade, it will detect a prior version, and delete it.  If you are using the free version, be careful which upgrade you are accepting as they make the free version harder to find.

If you like to try new things Vince Alline let me know that Microsoft has a new email client some of you may want to try.  Go to http://www.xobni.com/learnmore/  and see if this is something you want to "play with".

Also from Vince is news of an offer of a new service (free at this time) which will help you recover a stolen or lost laptop.  If the computer is stolen, you log-in your account, mark the computer as stolen. As soon as the machine connects to the Internet, the actions you set up during setup will execute.  The LaptopLock will also try to find out as much as possible about the connection to help in the recovery of the machine.  THE LAPTOPLOCK DOES NOT MONITOR OR RECORD USER ACTIONS. THE LAPTOPLOCK DOES NOT ALLOW ANYONE ACCESS TO YOUR COMPUTER OR DATA. THE LAPTOPLOCK CAN ONLY EXECUTE ACTIONS THE USER HAS PRE-PROGRAMMED.  Read about this offer at http://www.thelaptoplock.com

The picture below is not computer related but I thought it represented what has been on the minds of most of us these past weeks.  We all have our opinion on the causes, but I want to remember how blessed I am as an American even in the face of this considerable problem.

I do not want to leave you this month with our focus on the fuel cost issues, but I want to leave you with a much more pleasant thought. So I have inserted a picture of our own Bald River Falls area, just a few miles up the road.  It was sent to me by a good friend who spends many hiking hours enjoying what is free to us here in East Tennessee.

Bald River Falls

May has been a great month for growing lawns and gardens here Tellico Village.  I hope you are wireless at your house so that you can sit on the back porch or deck and enloy both the great East Tennessee weather and your computer.

See you at the next meeting.  Come learn and maybe even win a magazine subscription.
