We will meet at 9:00 AM, one hour before the tour time, at the Berkshire/Lakeside Parking opposite the Marathon in Tellico Village on Chota Rd. and depart no later than 9:10 AM. It's much easier if we car pool, but if you wish to drive yourself and meet us at the Thompson Proton Therapy Facility, the address and directions are below. Please let Bob Kutchera know in advance if you plan to drive by yourself, and you MUST arrive at the Thompson Proton Therapy Center by 9:45 AM.
Go behind the scenes tour of the proton center including a complete walk through of a patient experience, up close viewing of the massive equipment that makes proton therapy work. We review the history of proton therapy that dates back to 1903, how proton therapy works. The Proton Center tour lasts about one and a half hours.
There are some restrictions in one section of the proton center tours that require those individuals with pace makers or someone that may be pregnant to be restricted from entering the cyclotron vault. They can view pictures of the cyclotron, but they may not enter the actual vault where the equipment is active. Also, no open-toed shoes are allowed.
